Barbara Wiggins, age 82, of Gatesville, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov.11, at Scott’s Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Talbot officiating.  Interment followed at Restland Cemetery. 

Barbara Ann Wiggins was born Nov. 22, 1940, in Wall, Texas to the late Vernon Bisby and Ora Irene Sluder Collins.  She was one of nine children.  She married the love of her life, Bill Wiggins, on Aug. 1, 1959, and the two had three children together.  In 1981, she attained her High School Equivalency Certificate from the Adult Education Co-op.  She attended Central Texas College for a degree in Vocational Nursing, and, in 1988, graduated and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse.      

She was an extremely active woman, being involved in many different activities, including youth activities with her church, the Girl Scouts of America, and the American Red Cross.  She was a family woman who was an excellent cook who always enjoyed sharing meals with others.  She was also a Fire Belle and was heavily involved in the Gatesville Volunteer Fire Department.  Barbara was a member of Live Oak Baptist Church for most of her life, and later a member of the Coryell Community Church.       

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill, of 51 years; seven siblings; and several nieces and nephews.   

 

Barbara is survived by her children, Billye Rhudy and husband, Sam, Paula Adkins and husband, Dale, Paul Wiggins and wife, Shannon; grandsons, Ben Rhudy, Jordan Rhudy and wife, Aly, Kaleb Hitt and wife, Whisper, Brady Wiggins and wife, Lauren; great-grandchildren, Jaxin and Brooklyn Wiggins; sister, Wanda Shelton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Barbara’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the grace and care provided to their mother by the staff of Rehab Living at the Meadows and Bluebonnet Hospice. 

 

In lieu of flowers, Barbara’s family requests memorials be made to the Gatesville Volunteer Fire Department, 109 S. 23rd St. Gatesville, Texas 76528.
