Hot start lands Gatesville softball at No. 18 in latest TGCA poll.

Thanks to a 7-2 start to their season, the Gatesville Lady Hornets softball squad is ranked No. 18 among all Class 4A teams in the state in the latest poll released by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

Gatesville picked up its seventh win of the season on Feb. 21 with a 13-9 victory over Clifton to snap a two-game losing streak. The Hornets began the season 6-0 but dropped their last two games of the Killeen ISD Tournament, to Leander Glenn and Harker Heights.

In the Killeen Tournament, the Hornets’ offense was on full display as they collected 45 hits, stole 26 bases, and hit five home runs – three from Brilee Ford. GHS pitchers tallied 34 strikeouts in seven games.

The Lady Hornets began play in the Gatesville Varsity Invitational on Feb. 23 with games against Academy and Ellison. On Feb. 24 they played Troy and Shoemaker before wrapping up the tournament with games against Moody and Valley Mills on Feb. 25.
