Gatesville ISD partners with Elite Therapy Center

Elite Therapy Center of Gatesville and Gatesville Independent School District have recently partnered to provide on-site physical therapy services to students.

Roxy Hunter, DPT, is a local physical therapist that treats at the Gatesville Elite Therapy Center as well as Waco clinic locations.

“I am a physical therapist who has been working with Elite Therapy Center for six years, since 2017,” Hunter said.

She has played a major role in the partnership between Elite Therapy Center and Gatesville ISD.

“In early September, we initiated discussions with school personnel to explore a potential partnership, and since then, we’ve been gradually implementing our plan,” Hunter said.

Gatesville ISD and Elite Therapy Center conducted meetings to talk about the partnership and what it would entail.

“This program is designed for junior high and high school athletes,” Hunter said. “We recognized evident challenges faced by both parents and students leading to the pioneering of this concept with Gatesville athletes, aiming to alleviate these issues and enhance healthcare accessibility for this community. Our vision was to create a solution that would address the pressing needs of quality care while minimizing disruptions to both parents’ and students’ daily routines.”

Hunter expressed how the significance of on-site physical therapy services in partnership with Gatesville ISD will ensure immediate access to specialized care for student athletes and will foster a seamless integration of rehabilitation into their academic and athletic routines.

To reduce the number of unneeded trips off campus, Elite Therapy Center has made it accessible to conduct treatment and screenings during school hours.

“All treatments are conducted on campus, making use of the athletic training building, weight room, and track amenities to ensure the most convenient and effective care for our athletes,” Hunter said.

This partnership will provide a comprehensive range of services, tailored to the needs of athletes who are post-surgical, recovering from injuries, or managing persistent pain, to support their journey towards peak performance and well-being.

Benefits of the partnership include:

-          Less class missed. Helping students to stay on track with academics.

-          Parents can now avoid taking time off from work to drive their children to appointments.

-          There will be direct collaboration with coaches and athletic trainers to ensure the most comprehensive care for students.

“Additionally, our company offers free sports injury prevention screening which may detect biomechanical imbalances that could predispose them to both minor and serious injuries,” Hunter added.

If the student qualifies for physical therapy services, a signed doctor’s referral is necessary.

“Elite Therapy’s administration will collaborate directly with families to facilitate the process, including obtaining the required referral and addressing insurance requirements,” Hunter said.

To date, there has been one student athlete who has received physical therapy treatment services as well as several that have received free screenings.

“Ultimately, the partnership will promote a quicker, more accessible, and comprehensive recovery as well as enhance the student’s overall well-being and performance while providing less stress and peace of mind for the parents,” Hunter said.
