Posted

The Oglesby Tigers made a valiant effort in their first ever state championship bid. Although the Tigers came up short to number one Benjamin Mustangs, the game, however, was much closer than the score indicated. The Tigers stayed close throughout the first quarter, and midway through the second quarter, matching score for score with the Mustangs. However, as the game progressed, miscues by the Tigers led to quick scores for the mustangs, and the Tigers were never able to recover.

Kyler Fossett had his usual outstanding game. Fossett put the first score on the scoreboard at AT&T Stadium with a 48-yard run in the first quarter, making the score Oglesby six and Benjamin zero. The PAT failed, and the score remained 6-0 nothing Tigers. Fossett added three more touchdowns of 33 yards, two yards, and one yard. Fossett finished with four touchdowns in one day, and 290 total yards. Johnny Gomez ended his senior year with a 2-yard touchdown plunge to cap off his year. Alex Castillo had two PATs for the game and rounded out the scoring for the Tigers. EJ Aviles had six carries for 24 yards. Landon Williamson caught one pass for 32 yards and first down at the 15-yard line and ended with 87 total yards for game. Hunter Walters was 2-5 passing for 47 yards, and he made key blocks to open the scoring lanes for Fossett’s touchdowns. Hunter Ewing, Landon Williamson, and Jack Hendricks also blocked well for the runners during the game.

Defensively for the Tigers:

  • Jack Hendricks had 5 tackles.
  • Landon Williamson had 4 tackles.
  • Tyler Fossett had 3 tackles.
  • Johnny Gomez had 3 tackles.
  • EJ Aviles had 2 tackles.
  • Jaxon Tippit had 1 tackle.

The Tigers ended their season at 13 and 1, with the majority of the players returning, the Tigers will reload and work hard in off-season in an effort to make another run at the state championship in 2024.
