GHS Baccalaureate ceremony to be held May 19

Posted

Seniors of Gatesville High School and their families are invited to attend the Baccalaureate ceremony on Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m. in the Gatesville High School Auditorium.

The Baccalaureate is an annual program that is put together and hosted by local pastors of the community.

It is a faith-based program consisting of special music, prayer, scripture reading, and a sermon. Seniors who choose to attend will receive a positive and uplifting message for their future.

Seniors need to be sure to wear formal attire along with their cap and gown.

The service is an optional program for graduating seniors and their families.

According to college.lclark.edu, “It is believed that, during the 15th century, Oxford University established a tradition of sending their graduates off to a service that included a sermon offered in Latin.” When the tradition made its way to the United States, the ceremony was changed.
