Local teacher and students paint rocks to raise awareness

Posted

A project supported by the Coryell County Child Welfare Board (CCCWB) involves local students raising awareness during National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Sixth grade art students at Gatesville Intermediate School paint rocks and then place them in locations around Coryell County for others to find to raise awareness and hope throughout the year.

“I’ve truly enjoyed this project that we have done for the past three years,” Gatesville Intermediate art teacher Tisa Stevens said. “I love that all the students get to give back to the community while being able to show off their artistic and creative abilities.”

Each rock has the National Child Abuse hotline on the back, so if someone finds one and turns it over, they will see that information.

“It’s a hopeful reminder help is available, if needed,” Stevens said.

This is the fourth consecutive year for the project between the Coryell County Child Welfare Board and Gatesville Intermediate art students.
