TWENTY YEARS AGO (2003)

                --The Gatesville Lions Club recognized Gatesville Intermediate School’s sixth grade teacher Michelle Hall as their “Teacher of the Month.”

                --Meteorologist Rusty Garrett spoke to a group of third, fourth and fifth grade Jonesboro students about tornado safety.

                --Justin and Marla Tatum announced the arrival of their baby boy, Shy Cooper Tatum, who weighed 6 pounds and 15 ounces.

                --Gatesville Lady Hornet freshman golfer Rachel Shoemaker participated in a district tournament where she shot a 111 on the 18-hole course.

                --The National Bank recognized employee Velda Johnson who had worked for the National Bank for over one year as a teller.

THIRTY YEARS AGO (1993)

                --The 11th annual Pizza Hut Easter Egg Hunt was held at the Gatesville Recreation Complex for children ages 1-10.

                --Kathy Brase of Leon Junction was attempting to find homes for approximately 500 baby rabbits. The Brases’ had brought home several titles from the American Rabbit Breeder’s Association State Show.

                --Thelma Massey, a lifetime resident of Coryell County, announced her candidacy for the Gatesville City Council.

                --Leonardo DaVinci’s famous painting, “The Last Supper,” came to life as Live Oak Baptist Church’s presented its fifth annual presentation of the drama depicting Christ and His disciples.

                --Jonesboro High School was among the entries in Class 1A area One-Act Play competition scheduled at Baylor University. The play was directed by Jami Hughes and Gayla Squyres.

FORTY YEARS AGO (1983)

                --Betty Cutter, a clinical psychologist, had joined the staff at the Gatesville Mental Health – Mental Retardation Center as coordinator.

                --Eleanor McCuistion had been chosen by the library board as the new head librarian at the Gatesville Public Library. She was succeeding Barbara Rosser who held the position for five years.

                --Mark Breeden, a senior at Jonesboro High School, had won third place in the District 25-A ready writing contest.

                --District 16-AAA medalist Tressia Jones was spearheading the Gatesville Hornet’s’ quest for a regional golf championship and a berth in the state tournament.

                --Robert Paul, a local musician and graduate of South Plains College, had begun making preparations for his second annual concert at the Gatesville Civic Auditorium.

FIFTY YEARS AGO (1973)

                --Dr. Ernest Elworth Lowrey had been awarded the “Citizen of the Year” by the Gatesville Chamber of Commerce.

                --Ray Byrom and Creston Brazzil emerged as winners in Gatesville’s school board election where Byrom received 178 votes and Brazzil 169.

                --Sarah Gohlke was re-elected as the president of the Parent-Teacher Association for the 1973-74 school year.

                --Ernest Hahn of Gatesville reported that he had one of his bulls shot and killed in a pasture near the Dan Davidson place on Coryell Creek.

                --Jim and Susan Saunders announced the birth of a baby boy, Justin Neil Saunders, who was born at Coryell Memorial Hospital.
