TWENTY YEARS AGO (2003)
--Vanessa Mangum, 8-year-old daughter of Brad and Melissa Mangum of Gatesville, donated more than 11 inches of her hair to the Locks of Love program.
--Laerdal announced the promotion of Sami Langley to global product manager, training and education. Sami graduated from Texas A&M university in 1996 with a degree in science.
--Elizabeth Dominguez-Shoaf, a Gatesville High School graduate, was scheduled to graduate Magna Cum Laude with a degree in elementary education from St. Edward’s University in Austin.
--Paula Faust, a kindergarten teacher at Gatesville Primary School, was busy preparing her classroom for the new school year.
-- Jonesboro running back Judd Anderson was one of the many quick ball carriers returning to the Eagles in the 2003 football season.
THIRTY YEARS AGO (1993)
--Farmers around Coryell County were busy harvesting their corn crops. Corn producers in the area averaged 65 to 70 bushels of corn per acre.
--Building permits in the City of Gatesville were less than $500,000 through the first seven months of 1993.
--Robert Wallace, Jr. was hired by the board of directors of Mountain Water Supply as the licensed operator for the system.
--Pecan Grove Baptist Church was beginning their summer revival with Dr. Paul Stripling preaching and Micah Goza serving as song leader.
--Itasca Neel Hampton was celebrating her 100th birthday at Canterbury Villa in Gatesville. She was born on Sept. 6, 1893, in Jonesboro.
FORTY YEARS AGO (1983)
--Athalee Williams, a ward clerk at Coryell Memorial Hospital, was honored by hospital administrator Tom McCall.
--First Baptist Church and Cold Springs Baptist Church were planning joint revival services. Rev. Bob Phillips of Cold Springs and Rev. David Johnson of First Baptist were the pastors.
--Edith Brumbalow of Jonesboro received an associate degree in applied science at McLennan Community College. There were 49 students receiving degrees.
--GHS senior Paul Smith was getting rave notices from Hornet coaches for his aggressive play at defense end during drills.
--April Monique Bromser received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Tarleton State University in Stephenville.
FIFTY YEARS AGO (1973)
--A new 300,000-gallon water tower (spheroid) was being constructed in the Westview Addition in Gatesville. It was being built at a cost of $138,400.
--Student enrollment in Gatesville’s public school for the 1973-74 school year numbered 1,924. The total enrollment was 34 below the previous year’s figure.
--Bailey McCallister and Lynn Haferkamp were participating in the pony-express relay races at the Sheriff’s Posse rodeo.
--John R. Ward and Lawrence Smith, members of the Coryell County chapter of the American Red Cross, were attending National Aquatic School in Tyler.
--Janis Kay Johnson of Gatesville graduated cum laude from Texas A&M University where she earned her undergraduate degree in education curriculum and instruction.
