--The “Meet Laura Ingalls Wilder” tour made a stop in Gatesville.
--New chain link fences were installed at Pruitt Field in McKamie Stadium in order to keep children away from muddy areas.
--Memorial bricks for the Coryell Museum and Historical Center arrived in time to be placed before Spurfest.
--Elizabeth Shoaf, of Gatesville, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Edwards University in Austin. She graduated magna cum laude.
--Katy Webber was crowned the 2003 Jonesboro High School Homecoming queen.
THIRTY YEARS AGO (1993)
--Gatesville’s mayor, Willis Ament, presented Texas House Speaker James E. (Pete) Laney with a belt in appreciation of his efforts in honor of District 57 state representative Allen Place.
--Gatesville’s Young Yellers showed off what they learned at cheer camp during the Gatesville-Robinson varsity football game.
--Students at Gatesville Primary School enjoyed fire truck rides as part of Fire Prevention Week.
--Oglesby beat Walnut Spring 62-14 at a varsity football game.
--Judy Kay Humphreys, who had been comatose since 1988, regained consciousness and began recovery.
FORTY YEARS AGO (1983)
--Dr. Elworth E. Lowery, dean of Active Gatesville Physicians, announced his retirement from private medical practice.
--The Hornette Cross Country unit won the Class AAA-and-under division of the Gatesville Invitational Meet.
--Joy Summerfied was elected president of the Gatesville Ladies Golf Association.
--W.J. Estell Jr. resigned as director of the Texas Department of Corrections.
--Dr. James Turman resigned as executive director of the Texas Youth Council.
FIFTY YEARS AGO
--Diane Tatum, Debbie Magee, and Shelly Morris were nominated for Gatesville High School’s 1973 homecoming queen.
--James Loden, of Pearl, and Audrey Barker, of Copperas Cove, received the top Gold Star awards at the Coryell County 4-H achievement banquet.
--Members of the class of 1951 of Turnersville High School met for a reunion in the gymnasium of the school building.
--U.S. Marine Michael James left for Camp Pendleton, Calif., after spending a 12-day leave in Gatesville with his parents, Deputy Sheriff and Mrs. Alvin James.
--Highway patrolman J.K. Hamilton, of Gatesville, placed high in the 25-yard kneeling and standing match and the 25-yard shoulder match of the 12th annual National Police Combat Pistol Championships in Jackson, Mississippi.
