Teacher makes a big difference

Recognition by grandparents who saw a significant positive in their grandson and credited the improvement to Gatesville Elementary School Teacher Brittany Crosby earned Crosby the Gatesville Independent School District Board of Trustees' Staff Spotlight for December.

"Brittany has been a faithful employee to GISD for many years," said Superintendent Barrett Pollard. "She has been a fourth-grade teacher, instructional coach and now a third-grade teacher. Not only is Brittany a highly effective teacher, but she is hard working and has a great attitude. Mrs. Crosby cares deeply for her students and wants them to be successful."

Earlier in the fall semester, a student's grandparents came to the GISD central office to praise Crosby for the impact she had made on their grandson's life.

"The grandparents described Brittany using terms such as 'miracle worker,' 'amazing,' and 'awesome,' Pollard said. He added that they showed GISD employees a picture of their grandson standing comfortably and confidently in front of the class.

"He had just read his poem in front of the other students and was beaming with pride," Pollard said. "The grandparents described how this is a complete turnaround from their grandson's (previous) behavior." Pollard said they explained that Crosby "was responsible for getting their grandson out of his shell and she is the reason he loves coming to school this year. The grandparents explained that their grandson has not always wanted to come to school. They were emphatic that we honor and recognize Brittany in some small way for the great work that she is doing with the children of GISD.

"We certainly appreciate her efforts and the positive impact she has in students' lives."
