Slone Early named Gatesville valedictorian

Slone Early, son of Sam and Se’Vette Early, has been named Valedictorian of the 2023 graduating class at Gatesville High School.

He traveled to Texas Tech University during his sophomore year to compete in the Regional Tennis Tournament and brought home a bronze medal. At the tournament he became known as the bracket buster for being an unseeded player. He was recognized as a KWTX Classroom Champion for his leadership on the tennis court and for his outstanding academic achievements in the classroom.

His four years of district tennis achievements include Newcomer of the Year, four-time Academic All-District, three-time District MVP, three-time boys singles champion, three-time regional qualifier, state qualifier, and two-time Hornet radio player of the week. He finished his Gatesville High School tennis career as the third-place boys singles medalist in the Class 4A State Tournament in San Antonio.

As a freshman, he won the pre-ap geography outstanding student award. As a sophomore, he won the graphic design outstanding student award. As a junior, he was awarded the on-ramps U.S. history outstanding student award and was a member of the PALS program. He is a member of the national Honor Society and was voted most scholarly by his peers.

He was instrumental in establishing an annual summer tennis tournament for the Gatesville tennis team and has hosted summer camps for his service project for the National Honor Society. He is a member of the national Honor Society and was voted most scholarly by his peers.

He was accepted into the engineering department at Texas A&M University and plans to study computer science to become a software developer. In his free time, he enjoys playing video games, competing in tennis tournaments, and computer programming.

Slone received the following awards:

* Outstanding Senior English Student Award of 4 Years

* Outstanding Senior Science Students Awards of 4 Years

* Scholar Athlete

*Voted Most Scholarly by the teachers.
