Posted

Members of CRSP (Coryell Retired School Personnel) will hold their next meeting on Thursday, April 27, at Ranchers’ Steakhouse, with social time at 9:30 a.m., and meeting to begin at 10 a.m.

The program titled “What’s New in 4-H?” will be presented by Becky Coward and some of her 4-H students. They will be discussing robotics and will bring their robotic machines to the meeting.

Members are reminded that they need to pay dues for the coming year. Dues are $45 ($35 for the state organization and $10 for our local chapter). Dues may be paid to treasurer, Anne Byrom.

There will also be an update from members who attended “A Day at the Capitol” on Wednesday, April 12. Those attending were Gerald and Gayla Linton, Cherry Braziel, Gail Johnson, Mary Bruton, and Jo Ann Sugg. They met with representatives and members then went to the Senate Chamber. Mary Bruton went to the House Chamber. JoAnn met with District 24 Senator Pete Flores. She also met with State Representatives Hugh Shine and Shelby Slawson. Retirees then toured the Capitol, ate Amy’s ice cream on the east lawn, and listened to a presentation by Tim Lee, TRTA Executive Director.

There were over 1000 retired teachers in Austin, and the senators recognized and thanked them for their work.  All 31 Senators voted to pass Senate Bill 10 and sent it on to the House Committee. SB10 is a COLA bill (cost of living adjustment). It calls for a 2% raise for those who retired between 9/1/2013 and 1/1/2022, a 4% raise for those who retired before 9/1/2013, and a 13th check of $7,500 for retired teachers over 75 years of age.

The COLA bill in the House of Representatives is HB600. It calls for a 2% COLA for those retired 3-10 years, a 4% COLA for those retired more than 10 years but less than 20 years, and a 6% COLA for those retired 20 or more years. It also provides for a $5,000 payment for retirees over age 70. More information will be available at the meeting.
