Posted

There are lots of things going on in Pearl during September and October.

The next Pearl Bluegrass event will be Sept. 10. September is the only month that the Bluegrass event happens on the second Saturday of the month instead of the first. The Pearl Cottage Bookstore will also be open, too. If you would like to be part of the stage show lineup, please contact Ronald Medart at 254-865-6013. You can also go on Liz Patton’s Facebook page to Pearl Bluegrass Jam and leave a message there. It looks like Liz has been working on updating the web page. Check it out at https://pearlbluegrassjam.org.

Items for the Labor Day Sunday Scholarship Silent Auction and Fish Fry on Sept. 4 will be out and ready for bidding in the dining room on Aug. 21 at the Pearl Church of Christ. All proceeds from this auction benefit the scholarship fund for local and His Kids students. Everyone is invited to attend.

The Pearl Baptist Church is now accepting donations for a silent auction to benefit the Evant Fire Department. The festival for the EFD will be held on Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be games for young and old, the silent auction, music, and food. Everyone is invited to attend.

The Pearl Community Center Flea Market will be held on Oct. 14 and 15 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each of those days. Booths may be set up prior to the event on Oct. 13. Contact Rhonda Dickey for booth spaces at 254-595-1096. Thank you, Rhonda, for overseeing the bookings. Booth spaces on the grounds are “first come-first park” at $5 per space. Contact Rhonda Dickey for the prices for the inside booths. The kitchen will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  each day as well. If you would like to donate food items to sell, that will be greatly appreciated.

The Pearl Church of Christ will celebrate its 127th birthday on Oct. 16. The church service begins at 10:30 a.m. with dinner on the grounds to follow. All are invited to attend.

HISTORY OF THE PEARL FLEA MARKET

The Pearl Flea Market was first organized by the ladies of the Quilting Club. After that, Joy Bates ran the flea market for several years. We thank the Quilting Club ladies and Mrs. Bates for overseeing this important event during for those many years.

Since 2007, Kay Pruett has organized the indoor flea market. (This year will be the first time the inside of the building has been used for the flea market since COVID began in 2020.) We want to thank Kay, her late son Russell Pruett, and her daughter-in-law Michelle Pruett for all they have done for overseeing the flea market and for taking care of the Pearl Community Center since 2007. Kay and Michelle will be moving to Gatesville soon and will be greatly missed. Thank you again, Kay, for all of the years of work in Pearl on the Pearl Cemetery, the Pearl Community Fellowship Church, The Pearl Cottage Bookstore, and the Pearl Community Center. Kay is definitely the Citizen of the Decades, and we would add the titles of mayor and sheriff of Pearl, too. We’re sure Judge McDonald would approve.

This week’s Bible verse: “Pray always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV (Please continue to pray for rain, our country, our law enforcement personnel, our firefighters, our teachers and students, our military, and our emergency personnel.)
