Pearl News

It was so good to talk to Kay earlier this week. S

he reported that she still enjoys walking in Raby Park with Pearl, her faithful dog, when the weather is good and going to the Pearl Cottage Bookstore each first Saturday. Kay is one of the founders of that wonderful little charity house, and it is near and dear to her heart. She also enjoys attending both the Pearl Community Fellowship Church and the Pearl Church of Christ each Sunday. No matter where she lives, Kay remains a vital part of the Pearl Community! If only we could keep her away from that darn bikini….or is it the other way around?!

The Purmela Reunion will be held on May 27. Everyone is invited, and you are encouraged to bring pictures to share. Visiting begins at 10 a.m. followed by a potluck lunch. Feel free to bring your favorite dish to share. After lunch, there will be a business meeting followed by a Purmela Smith Cemetery and Bundrant Cemetery meeting.

Debbie, Roy, and Marley Harris visited Pearl Church of Christ and Pearl Cottage Bookstore last week. Linda reports that Marley has grown both in stature and cuteness (though I don’t know how that sweet boy could get any cuter)! Please keep the Harris family in your prayers as they continue to deal with health issues. You just can’t find a family more devoted to serving God than the Harris’s!

Upcoming dates of the Pearl Bluegrass event and the Pearl Cottage Bookstore days for the remainder of 2023 are as follows: June 3, July 1, Aug. 5, (second Saturday in September) Sept. 9, Oct. 7, Nov. 4, and December 2.  Mark these dates on your calendar and come see us in Pearl!

The Pearl Cottage Bookstore has a lot of new items! The store is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the dates listed above. Most items are “take what you want, pay what you want,” and all proceeds go to local charities. There are more than 6,000 books in the store as well as various other items. You never know what you might find at the bookstore! Go see Kay, Linda, and Corlisa! You’ll come as curious customers and leave as favored friends! This is Pearl Book Cottage’s 14th year!

Pearl Church of Christ Vacation Bible School is almost upon us …. May 29 through June 2, 9 a.m. to noon. Please share this information with all your friends and family. Everyone is welcome!

Please keep my oldest granddaughter in your prayers. She broke her arm and wrist in two places this week in a Segway accident. Rodeos will be postponed until fully healed, and this little roper is not a happy camper! (Now I know why they won’t let me ride it!)

This week’s Bible verse comes from Matthew 5:14-16 — “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven.” (NIV) We pray that our graduates let their lights shine for Jesus! In this way, you will make a difference! Congratulations to all!
