Pearl News

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! The Great Bikini Heist has all of Pearl in an uproar. Ace Detective David Scott aka Star Reporter and Purveyor of News and Events around Pearl and the surrounding area discovered that the famous Framed Teeny Weeny, Turquoise Greeny, Stringy Bikini has been absconded from its hallowed placement above the Christian Book Section last Saturday during the Sept 9 Bookstore and Bluegrass event.

Mr. Scott brought the missing item to Linda Ray’s attention—and she grew faint with despair. Upon questioning, it was revealed that Mrs. Ray had been in the bookstore all during the previous week but had not noticed the missing miscreant until Mr. Scott paid his routine homage to that crazy creation—only to find it wasn’t there (I heard the scream all the way in Nacogdoches).

Eagle Eye Scott began an immediate search of the area and found no clues to the possible whereabouts of the framed frock. Therefore, it is up to you, dear reader, to keep your eyes peeled for sightings of the missing merchandise. Should you make contact with this perp, please request that it be returned to the Pearl Cottage Bookstore immediately. Kay Pruett has planned a goodbye celebration to the 100-plus heatwave and wants to wear the stringy thingy on her last hurrah, hail, and farewell, begone with you party on the Cowhouse Creek. Whatever will she do? (No reward has been offered at this time. Stay tuned, though.) Alas, there’s no place like Pearl, sigh.

Speaking of the Bookstore and Bluegrass event last Saturday, it was reported that everyone enjoyed a great turnout. Corlisa and Linda said that they got to visit with folks they had not seen in quite a while, and they met many new friends, too. Be sure and let your friends and family know about the next event on Oct. 7. The beginning of fall in Pearl is a beautiful time of year, so go and enjoy the (hopefully) cooler temps and wonderful sights and sounds of this beloved community. You’ll be so glad you did.

In other news ... The Pearl Church of Christ will have their 128th Homecoming and Reunion on Oct. 15. Remember, church begins at 10:30 a.m., and dinner on the grounds will follow. Plaques will be given to the youngest attending, oldest attending, longest attending member, couple married the longest, and for the person who traveled the longest distance. Drive your vintage cars if you have one and join the fellowship, fun, and good preaching in Pearl.  Everyone is invited!

The next Pearl Cemetery workday is set for Saturday, Oct. 14, at 9 a.m., weather permitting. If the weather does not cooperate, it will be rescheduled for Oct. 21.

This week’s Bible verse comes from Titus 2:11-13, "For the Grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the Glory of our Great God and Savior, Jesus Christ…” NIV

Please pray for rain and cooler weather, our country, and our schools.
