The event was sponsored by the City of Gatesville, Gatesville Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Gatesville Chamber of Commerce, and the Gatesville Volunteer Fire Department.

A social time was held for the military personnel from Fort Cavazos between 6 and 6:30 p.m. followed by the invocation by Reverend Dr. Dewey “Buddy” Wheat, Jr. of The Presbyterian Church of Gatesville. A welcome and words of appreciation were issued to the military members by Mayor Gary Chumley.

It was reported that over 500 members of the military were in attendance after being bussed in from Fort Cavazos.

Mayor Chumley, along with the Director of Public Relations at Hillside Medical Lodge, Susie Meelbusch, presented Cpt. William Johnson, Lt. Brandon Berlinrut, Sgt.
