New sign graces downtown Gatesville

Those driving along Main Street near the courthouse square will notice a Gatesville sign located in the “green space” between the Coryell County Appraisal Office and Graves Florist. The City of Gatesville’s Special Events Coordinator, Cheri Shepherd, said, “I had seen similar signs in other cities and had been wanting one for Gatesville.”

“When we started eclipse planning, I thought it was the perfect time and would give people a place to take a photo,” she said. Shepherd said that she went to Dave Christian at Higginbothams to see if they would help and that they offered to donate the materials and labor. “Higginbothams designed, donated the supplies, built, delivered, and set it up,” said Civic Center Manager, Morgan Smart.

Shepherd pointed out that, if you look, there are spurs on the side of the “I” and it has the phases of the eclipse above it so you can say, “Here I am under the eclipse in the middle of Gatesville!”
