National Register plaque unveiled

Posted

Chairman of the Coryell County Historical Commission, Danny Corbett, recently presided over the unveiling of the National Register of Historic Places plaque during the Ogletree Gap Heritage Festival held near Copperas Cove.

The NRHP plaque, which is now attached to the original historical marker post, was placed on the National Register in 1979 in front of the stone structure known as the Ogletree Gap stagecoach stop. The stage stop, post office and mercantile store were located in the building, which was built in 1878 by pioneer Marsden Ogletree. The family lived in one room of the two-room structure while the stage stop, post office and mercantile store were located in the adjacent room.
