Marshall Day, longtime publisher of The Gatesville Messenger, is the namesake of a tournament which raises funds for local recreation.
Gatesville Parks and Recreation announced that the 2023 Marshall Day Benefit Tournament will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12 at 4:30 p.m. and will take place at Lions Club Park. Registration will begin at 3 p.m.
This event raises money for improvements at Gatesville’s sports complex. Marshall Day, longtime publisher of The Gatesville Messenger, was a major supporter of the youth sports programs offered in Gatesville and now continues to give to the youth in this way.
The team entry fee will cost $50, the homerun derby will cost $20, and the closest to the pin competition will cost $10. There will be a men’s division double elimination tournament at 6 p.m., and only registered City League teams may participate.
The games will be played into the night until the winner is declared.
