Local school districts receive TSMCA honors

Coaches and athletes from Jonesboro and Oglesby Independent School Districts have recently been recognized on the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association’s 2023 All-State and All-Region Football Honor Lists.  

For Jonesboro ISD, Coach Eddie Gallegos and two athletes were recognized under the 2023 All-Region Division I list:

• Gallegos was honored as Region IV Coach of the Year.
• Demarcus Acoff, senior, was named Region IV Defensive MVP.
• Maddox Stroud, junior, was honored as Region IV Newcomer of the Year.

For Oglesby ISD, Coach Jeb Dixon and two athletes were recognized under the All-State Division II and All-Region Division II lists:

• Dixon was honored as Coach of the Year in the All-State Division II and Region III categories.
• Kyler Fossett, junior, was named Offensive MVP in the All-State Division II and Region III lists.
• Johnny Gomez, senior, was named Region III Defensive MVP.  

The Texas Six-Man Coaches Association was formed in 1948 by a group of coaches with the approval of the University Interscholastic League (UIL). Every year, they release a roster that honors local athletes and coaches from six-man football teams.
