Lam family to hold garage sale for medical bills

Posted

The Lam family will hold a garage sale on Friday, Sept. 29 and Saturday, Sept. 30 to raise funds regarding unexpected medical bills. The garage sale will begin at 8 a.m. each morning and will be held across from the Bar-N Vet Clinic located at 4705 St. Hwy. 36 in Gatesville.

The idea for the sale came around over this past summer when baby Snider, granddaughter of Jayson and Laura Lam and daughter of Ryan and Shelbi Snider, had to make two urgent trips to McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple with one ending with emergency surgery.

About 10 days before baby Snider was born, the parents were notified of a fast-growing cyst on the baby’s abdomen at approximately five centimeters. After tests were conducted on baby Snider, it was determined that while the cyst was large, it was not life-threatening to her. That is when she was sent by ambulance to McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple for doctors to assess the cyst, as it had grown up to seven centimeters.

The doctors concluded that baby Snider needed to be hospitalized for three days to monitor the cyst to see if it would shrink on its own. At two weeks old, the cyst had grown up to eight centimeters, but doctors insisted to continue monitoring as she grew.

When baby Snider was only three months old, she became ill and lethargic, which sent her to the emergency room. After running tests, the doctors confirmed that the cyst may be compromising her small intestine, and she was rushed to McLane’s Children’s Hospital in Temple to remove the cyst.

The surgery was successful, and baby Snider spent only four days recovering in the hospital.

The public is encouraged to attend the garage sale on Friday, Sept. 29 and Saturday, Sept. 30 to support the Lam family and baby Snider.
