Jonesboro ISD UIL students advance to regionals

The Jonesboro ISD district 25A Academic UIL competition was a success this past week as various students will be advancing to the upcoming regional meet.

Overall, Jonesboro placed second after competing in their two-day event.

Students advancing to regionals include:

Leonella Rodrigues in social studies, ready writing, and copy editing.

Maddie Hengst in physics and literary criticism.

Luke Maxwell in mathematics and number sense.

Luke Stephenson in headline writing as well as current issues and events.

Pate Foote in literary criticism and number sense.

Sierra Chapman in literary criticism and prose interpretation.

Peyton Williamson in literary criticism.

DeMarcus Acoff in number sense.

Braden Ashby in number sense.

Maggie Gillis in poetry interpretation.

Other students who placed include:

In calculator applications, Hunter Beaty, Braden Ashby, Pate Foote, and DeMarcus Acoff received third place with a total of 98 points.

In copy editing, Chloe Lusk received sixth place with a total of four points.

In current issues and events, as a team, Luke Stephenson, Braxton Dossey, and Maddie Hengst received second place with a total of 76 points. Individually, Braxton Dossey won fourth place with a total of eight points, and Maddie Hengst won 13th place.

In feature writing, Sierra Chapman won fourth place with a total of eight points.

In headline writing, Gracie Calhoun-Dick won sixth place with a total of four points.

In mathematics, DeMarcus Acoff and Braden Ashby won sixth place with a total of 28 points, and Braxton Dossey won 15th place with a total of 10 points.

In prose interpretation, Michella Martinez won fourth place with a total of eight points.

In science, Pate Foot won sixth place with a total of two points, Maddie Hengst won eighth place, Maggie Gillis won 10th place, Braden Ashby won 12th place, Hunter Beaty won 13th place, and Braxton Dossey won 14th place.

In social studies, as a team, Leonella Rodriguez, Maddie Hengst, Michella Martinez, and Antonella Rodriguez won second place with a total of five points. Individually, Maddie Hengst won fifth place with a total of six points, Michella Martinez won nineth place, and Antonella Rodriguez won 10th place.

In spelling, as a team, Rachael Pruett, Antonella Rodriguez, Kayleigh Scott, and Madison Cohn won third place. Individually, Rachael Pruett won seventh place, Antonella Rodriguez won 10th place, Kayleigh Scott won 11th place, and Madison Cohn won 15th place.
