The One Act Play program at Jonesboro Independent School District won third place in a recent competition held at Abbot High School and will be advancing to bi-district.

Various students came home with awards, including Maggie Gillis and Peyton Williamson, All-Star Cast award; Luke Maxwell and Hunter Beaty, Honorable Mention award; and Antonella Rodriguez, All-Star Crew award.

One Act Play director Kimberly Foy is in her first year of leading the program at Jonesboro ISD.

“I am so excited for them and so proud of them,” Foy said. “They have given up countless hours to learn lines and rehearse.”

The play is called, “Victoria at 18” and is about a clash of wills between Victoria and her mother, the strong-willed Duchess of Kent, who has always refused to let her daughter grow up.

“They were given their scripts in November, but practices really began in January,” Foy said.

The program includes nine cast members and four crew members total.

“Everything we do is after school hours, and all of them are involved in other activities,” Foy said. “I am so proud of them for making One Act Play a priority.”

Foy expressed how her students are so much fun to work with, and that they have really made their characters come to life.

There will be a community performance at a later date with more details to come.
