Hidden Gem to host Harvest Festival Oct. 21

This month on Oct. 21, Hidden Gem Family Center will host a Harvest Festival at the Gatesville Civic Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission will be free and there will be tickets for activities available to purchase.

Activities will include giant Jenga, face painting, a photo booth, best dressed pet palooza contest, food trucks, live music, bingo, popcorn, treasure in a haystack, a cornbread cookoff, a cornhole tournament, goat roping, a chili cook off, axe throwing, a fall baking competition, and various vendors.

Goat roping will be held at 2 p.m. and will be open to all ages who are interested in participating. It will cost $20 for three-head and sign up will be on the day of the event. For more information, contact Don Jones for more information at 254-223-1210.

The cornhole tournament will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the check-in time will be at 10 a.m. To pre-register for the tournament visit Hiddengemfamilycenter.org and click on “donate,” then add a note with the designated team name. Pre-registration will cost $40 and to sign up at the door will cost $50. This tournament will be a 50/50 payout, meaning the team who wins will receive half of the amount raised with the other half to be donated to Hidden Gem Family Center.

To enter in the pet palooza costume contest, pre-register at Hiddengemfamilycenter.org and scroll down to “donate” and add $10, then add a not to your donation with your name, pet name, and pet size. The contest will be for small dogs up to 25 pounds and large dogs 26 pounds and up. There will be two categories, most creative and best owner look alike. Be sure to arrive at the show barn located at the Gatesville Civic Center by 12:30 p.m. on the day of the event. The contest will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the show barn.

A fall baking competition will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the front room of the Civic Center. Categories will include apple pie, pecan pie, and pumpkin pie; cookies and bars; cakes, cupcakes, and muffins; and candies. The awards will commence at approximately 12:30 p.m. in the main room of the Civic Center. The cornbread cookoff is open to adults and children with great prizes for first, second, and third place. The categories will include from scratch or specialty. The cookoff will cost $10 per entry. Be sure to preregister at Hiddengemfamilycenter.org and scroll down to “donate” and enter $10, then add a note with your name and type of entry. The entry forms and rules are posted on the website.
