Hall of Fame inducts Southern Plainsmen Quartet

Posted

The Gatesville Country Music Hall of Fame was recently pleased to welcome the Southern Plainsmen Quartet to the stage at the Gatesville City Auditorium.

The Plainsmen Quartet are often recognized throughout the United States for fine harmonies and their renditions of Southern Gospel songs.

Members of the quartet include Robert Jackson, lead singer; Jeremy Glass, lead singer and piano; Jeff Bordelon, bass; Tim Thomas, baritone; and Marcelle Slaughter, tenor.

While on stage, the group performed old favorites along with some of their new songs, including their most recent release, “Roll Back River Jordan.”

During their performance, the group was honored to be inducted into the Gatesville Country Music Hall of Fame and received the key to the city presented by Gatesville mayor, Gary Chumley. In addition, the quartet received a proclamation from Governor Greg Abbott in honor of their induction into the hall of fame.

Quartet member Tim Thomas said that although the quartet had performed in Coryell County in the past, this was the first time they had performed at the Gatesville City Auditorium. The group was very honored with the induction, proclamation, and the key to the city. “We are very honored to play here,” Thomas said.

The late Mike Kuzenka first started the Gatesville Jamboree, and eventually the Hall of Fame was formed about 2007. After Roger Vierse, now known as the director, took over in 2007, he inducted Kuzenka as the first Hall of Fame inductee.

In the past, Vierse has been quoted as saying that the Hall of Fame’s purpose is to recognize people who have talent and play on a semi-professional or professional level.

As always, the Gatesville Country Music Hall of Fame seeks to provide good, wholesome music with a family-oriented flavor at free concerts held at the Gatesville City Auditorium stage located at 110 N. 8th Street.
