GISD Staff Spotlight shines on GJHS staff members with the creation of a “Care Closet.”

At a recent meeting, the Gatesville Independent School District Board of Directors recently honored six staff members from Gatesville Junior High who are making a difference in the lives of students and bringing awareness to their needs with the creation of a “Care Closet.”

Suzy Penrod, Principal of Gatesville Junior High School, had the following to say about her staff members, “Staci Pruitt, Stephanie Streetman, Ericha Stephens, Morgan Harman, Shelby Fulton, and Denise Jones had a vision to establish a ‘Care Closet’ on our campus that addresses the immediate clothing needs of the junior high students. Staci, Stephanie, Morgan, Shelby, Ericha, and Denise’s dedication to our students embodies a deeper commitment that is more than just an extension of the academic mission of the junior high.”

According to GJHS counselor, Staci Pruitt, the Care Closet started out in one small room, but with the continued donation of clothing, shoes, and toiletry items, the closet had to expand. A reading room that was used for storage became the second room to be turned into a Care Closet.

Pruitt said that they are still in need of donations – especially toiletry items such as deodorant, toothpaste, body wash, shampoo, etc.

“They want to ensure every child has access to the dignity, confidence, and sense of belonging that comes with junior high students having appropriate attire. Their efforts reach beyond curriculum, touching on the broader perspective of holistic care and inclusivity. I wholeheartedly believe these ladies deserve recognition for their work,” Penrod said.

GISD Superintendent Dr. Barrett Pollard, said “We are very proud of these caring and considerate staff members and want to honor them.”
