GHS presents 2024 valedictorian and salutatorian

The roles of the valedictorian and salutatorian at Gatesville High School for the class of 2024 have been announced and were given to two students who have earned their way to the top of their class.

Olivia Walker has been announced as the valedictorian for the class of 2024. She has a 4.522 grade point average (GPA) and is the daughter of Summer and Jonathan Walker.

She is a member of the National Honor Society and a varsity tennis player as well. She has been on the varsity tennis team since her sophomore year and has taken the role of team captain this year. Her honors include Tennis MVP, Hornet Radio Player of the Week, Outstanding Student Award in On Ramps U.S. History, and Exchange Club Student of the Week.

She has committed to the University of Texas at Austin for a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a Forensic Lab Technician certificate and plans to become a forensic technician.

Barrett Boyd has been announced as the salutatorian for the class of 2024. She has a 4.418 GPA and is the daughter of Dusty and Jennifer Boyd and has two brothers, Braxton and Hez.

Boyd has held the following leadership positions including Senior Class President, Student Council member, Gatesville Chamber of Commerce Junior Ambassador, GEAR UP Youth Congress, and PAL’s. She is a four-year varsity letterman and state qualifier in track and field, a three-year letterman and senior captain in volleyball, and a two-year letterman in soccer. She has earned the following honors including TGCA All State Academic Elite Team, 1st Team All District in soccer, Second Team All District in volleyball, fifth place in pole vault at state, MVP three years in a row for track and field, Outstanding Student of the Year in multiple classes, Most Outgoing PAL, and was awarded the PAL’s scholarship.

She will be attending the United States Air Force Academy this fall where she will be majoring in Biology and be a part of their track and field team. Following her time at the academy, she plans on attending medical school to be an anesthesiologist in the United States Air Force.
