GATESVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY Off the Shelves

Posted

Summer is coming to an end at the library, but what a summer it was! The library held 85 programs through the end of July with 1,270 people in attendance. We are excited and honored to have been able to serve our community by providing free, fun entertainment and learning opportunities this year. The students will benefit in the coming school year by keeping those reading and thinking skills sharp, and that will have a big payoff for them as they return to the classroom.

The end of summer also means it’s time for new reading challenges. Our newest challenge “Read Beyond the Beaten Path” started Aug. 1 and challenges readers to broaden their horizons and read something different. This challenge is for pre-K to adult with a special reading list for each age group. Download the ReadSquared app and start logging your reading today. There will be a special prize for those that complete all 10 books on their reading list.

As the new school year begins, remember the library has a range of services to help you be successful. We have study rooms and carrels in case you need a quiet place to study or to take an online class. We also have free Wi-Fi if you want to bring your own device, or you can log on to one of the library computers. For your research, we have access to a suite of online databases with full text articles from professional and educational journals on a wide range of topics.

We also offer proctoring for exams. If you need to take a proctored test or exam and don’t want to drive to a testing center on campus, come by and we will help you get approval for your exam to be proctored here. This is another one of the many services your library provides to make your life easier.
