Gatesville ISD spotlight shines on Alex Johnson

On September 18, Gatesville Independent School District Board of Trustees placed the Student Spotlight on Gatesville High School student Alex Johnson, who was recognized for his academic achievements and his hard work.

Johnson was honored last April for being named All Star Cast during the One Act Play competition. Recently, the College Board designated him with the National Rural and Small Town Award (NRSTA). Since the start of the school year, the high school has already recognized him twice with a “shout out.”

GHS teacher, Jeannie Collins, noted that Alex is aways available to help others. He is the Vice President of the junior class and is the Drum Major in the Fighting Hornet Band. He is highly ranked in his class and takes very tough, advanced courses. He also participates in Debate, Academic UIL, Student Council, and the PALS program.

Recently, Johnson began working at Taco Bell. GHS teacher, Bonnie Latham, commented about her recent trip to Taco Bell. “Alex diligently swept, cleaned off tables, and took orders. This was at 8:15 in the evening, but Alex comes in every day ready for class. I am always so proud to see students working, but I also know how difficult it can be to juggle it all. Alex does so with wisdom and time management skills a lot of adults don’t even exemplify.”

Latham continued, “I’m very proud of him and blessed to be his teacher.”
