Gatesville Choir breaks two school records

Gatesville Independent School District announced the results from the Texas Music Education Association (TMEA) Pre-Area auditions, which were held on Friday, Dec. 1. Gatesville Choir broke two school records with nine students qualifying, and six students advancing to the final area round in Jan. 2024.

Results of the TMEA Pre-Area auditions:

• Katie Hopson - 4th Chair Soprano
• Anna Phillips - 2nd Chair Alto
• Paisley Wells - 2nd Chair Tenor
• Roman Wallace - 8th Chair Tenor
• Memphis Wells - 2nd Chair Bass
• Nevin Benning - 4th Chair Bass
• Eli Alvarez - 1st Alternate Tenor

The students have been learning college-level music since before summer to prepare for the auditions, as well as having to individually sightread.
