Frances Spence February 2, 1932 – August 17, 2022

Frances Spence, age 90, of Gatesville, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at King Baptist Church, with Rev. Charles McKamie officiating.  Interment will follow at King Cemetery. 

Lennie Frances Spence was born on February 2, 1932, in the Slater community of Coryell County to the late Roy and Lula Wittie Stovall.  She grew up in the Slater and King communities and went to school in Pearl and Gatesville, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1949.  She married Grady H. Spence on August 31, 1947, at her home.  She started working at Medical Plastics Laboratory in 1969 and worked there for 44 years and twenty-two days, retiring from Laerdal in 2013 at the age of 81.  She was baptized in the Cowhouse Creek at the age of eight years old at King Baptist Church.  She remained a member of King Baptist Church for many years and was currently a member at Eastwood Baptist Church.  She was a member of the Quilting Club in Gatesville, that met at the members’ homes.  She was a former Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and she enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, sewing, and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Grady H. Spence, Sr. in 2008; brother, Clyde Alexander Stovall in 1931; sister, Kathryn Mosley in 2022; grandson, Christopher Alexander Patrick in 2009; and a daughter-in-law, Sandy Spence in 2018.

Frances is survived by her son, Grady H. Spence, Jr.; daughter, Luanna Gayle Gossett and husband, Johnny; grandson, Jonathan Andrew Patrick; great-grandson, Aidan Lane Patrick; adopted grandson, Michael Moore and wife, Sharitta; aunt, Grace Stovall; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family has designated memorials be made to the King Cemetery Association or King Baptist Church, c/o 601 CR 135, Gatesville, TX 76528.
