Coryell Senior Expo returns for the first time since COVID-19

After a four-year break following the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2023 Coryell Senior Expo returned on Aug. 24 to the Gatesville Civic Center.

The event gives older adults the opportunity to learn about local resources and receive free health screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar checks. Twenty-six organizations from Gatesville and surrounding communities came to the event to offer information on home care, hospice, assisted living, long-term care, rehabilitation, and more.

“It’s a blessing to be able to serve our elderly in the community again,” said Susie Meelbusch, board member of the Coryell Senior Expo.

This year’s event also provided four educational classes related to aging, as well as free giveaways and prizes.

“This is great because sometimes we don’t know about all of these businesses that are here,” said Betty Brown, one of the Expo’s attendees.

Organizations that attended the event included Hillside Medical Lodge, Coryell Health, Area Agency on Aging, United Healthcare, and Hill Country Community Action Association.

“We have several different areas that we help at all ages and stages of life, so I think it’s very beneficial for everyone in the community,” said Jamie Hunt with Hill Country Community Action Association.
