Coryell County 4-H delegations travel to Washington, D.C.

Posted

Two groups representing Coryell County 4-H recently traveled to Washington, D.C. for a week of learning and touring our nation’s Capital. The weeklong trips were both educational and fun for the 4-H members who, while there, developed action plans to implement in their own communities.

Those who attended the Citizenship Washington Focus from June 26-July 1 were members of the Coryell County 4-H Senior Ambassador Team. Eight members and two adults toured the monuments, the Capitol, the Holocaust Museum, the Spy Museum, Arlington National Cemetery, and several of the Smithsonian museums. This trip was made possible by generous donations from community organizations and individuals contributing to help provide the experience for the young leaders.

Also traveling to Washington D.C. to participate in the True Leaders in Equity Institute, a National 4-H leadership experience, were Emily Yarbrough, Jacob Ellerbe, and Zakary Huckabee. According to 4-H, youths and adults can leverage their unique strengths to impact their local communities and the world by working in partnerships. The True Leaders in Equity Institute serves as an opportunity to explore change agents within the current system to reach more youths and extend inclusive learning environments that will grow 4-H in their communities.

Coryell County 4-H enrollment for the new year will begin in August. Join their Facebook page or give them a call at (254) 865-2414 with any questions regarding 4-H project opportunities.
