As thousands of young people and their families travel across Texas to major stock shows this season, I’m reminded of how big the state of Texas truly is. With 254 counties full of 4-H members and thousands of FFA students, representing hundreds of schools exhibiting their livestock, the annual migration to the majors is extremely humbling.
Fort Worth is the first major show in the spring major show season. Coryell County 4-H had several youths experience the showring in Cowtown.
Charles and Thomas Belt, Lane, Lilly, and Hubbard Kinsey all exhibited market steers. Kaylie Willaims showed her goat, while Addyson Edwards and Breeze and Bliss Buckner showed their lambs.
The Junior and Senior Plant Identification Teams were both awarded rosettes for placing 4th and 5th respectively. Junior Team Members were Mia Conley (6th high individual), Marcy Conley (4th high individual), and Hagen Milam. Senior Team members were Caleb Mannix (9th high individual), Chase Janke, and Lane Brookshire.
The next stop of the “tour of the majors” for most of our youth includes San Angelo. Results from 4-H youth competing at the San Angelo Stock Show are as follows:
The Consumer Decision Making Team competed with the following results:
The Livestock Judging team members who competed were Clayton Gregory, Ryli Bryson, Lane Kinsey, Thomas Belt, Lilly Kinsey, Pete Wallace, and Paislee Cullar.
Our 4-H youth will travel to San Antonio next, then on to Houston and Austin. Congratulations to everyone on their project work and success at the major shows!
