High School tennis team recognized for successful season

The Gatesville High School tennis team was recognized during the Monday, Oct. 19, school board meeting.

GISD superintendent Dr. Barrett Pollard said the team, under the direction of coaches Wendell Jones and Alex Scott, has had their best fall season since 2022.

The team finished with a win-loss record of 10-5 and advanced to the UIL class 4A playoffs for the 10th consecutive year.

The team ended up falling to Thrall in the bi-district match 11-8.

The team currently has only one senior – Ryan Connolly – with number of players moving up in the ranks continuing to grow through both the high school and junior high teams.

“There is a lot of promise within the Hornet tennis program,” Pollard said.

After the bi-district defeat, the team and coaches will have a break until their spring season picks back up in late January.

“We want to thank the players and coaches for all of their hard work and dedication through some very hot days of practice and matches,” Pollard said. “They represented the Gatesville community and the tennis community with great sportsmanship.”

Throughout the school year, the school board will recognize either an individual student or a group of students during their monthly board meetings.
