The 52nd annual Shivaree event took place on Saturday, June 6, all day on the Gatesville Courthouse Square to bring a day of summer fun to the local community.
Prior to the Saturday festivities, the annual Miss Shivaree pageant took place on Friday evening in the Gatesville High School auditorium. Miss Shivaree 2026 is Bailey Wolff. The Junior Miss Shivaree won by Rosalaynah Hernandez Villarreal and Little Miss Shivaree was Gracelyn Henderson. Sweetheart Miss was Preslee Osbourn while Tiny Miss was awarded to Emma Hopson. The youngest contestant, Scottie Jo Thomas, was awarded Baby Miss Shivaree.
The Saturday of the event, the day started off with the Color Run that started by the Gatesville City Pool. The run, entitled Color the Shivaree Fun Run 5k, was a 1.5 mile course open to everyone of all ages. Participants started their run at 8 a.m.
After the run, the vendor market was open to the public on the courthouse square. Along with the vendor market, there was a kids zone, a petting zoo and a magician that brought family-friendly fun to the community.
At around noon the 42 tournament took place, which saw Cort Anderson of Crawford and partner Belinda Chasteen of Gatesville take first place.
In the evening, the event’s concert took place with the stage located in front of the west side of the courthouse square in front of the buildings that were affected by the March fire. The opening acts included Jayden Palady and Clayton Landua before headliner Josh Abbott Band took the stage around 8:30 p.m. until around 10 p.m.
“I was so happy the rain stayed away, though we had some vendors back out because of the fear of rain,” Gatesville Chamber of Commerce Liaison Tina Zimmerman said. “We had a good turnout. The concert was packed and I think everyone had a good time.”
