Gatesville team tennis squad

Slone Early, the No. 1 boys’ singles player for the Gatesville Hornets, won a tough matchup with Lake Belton’s Brodie Reed in the home opener for the Tuesday.

Early won, 6-4, 6-4, in a grueling matchup with the Lake Belton sophomore ace.

The Hornets captured the team match, 10-9, to improve the Hornets to 2-0 in the fall season.

In doubles, Early and Ty Warren posted a 6-2, 7-5 win over Caden Marshall and Cole Wieters.

Gatesville ace Stormy Tatum cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jillian Webb in singles.

Other wins in girls’ singles were by Anna Mitchell 6-2, 6-1 over Maya Davies Honea, Julee Sun over Gracie Stoddard, 6-0, 6-2 and Kasey Fitzer over Elena Judd, 8-4.

Gatesville picked up three wins in girls’ doubles.

Stormy Tatum and Julee Sun won 6-1, 6-0, over Maya Davies Honea-Gracie Stoddard.

Anna Mitchell and Bri Alexander posted a 6-0, 7-5 win over Jillian Webb and Rachel Kim.

The third girls’ doubles win was posted by Preslea Edmond and Olivia Walker over Victoria Melendez and Elana Judd, 5-7, 6-1 (10-8)

Dayne Zacha and Fitzer posted a 1-6, 6-3 (12-10) win in mixed doubles.

Taking losses in boys’ singles were Alex Scott, Jesse Strange, Carlo Martinez and Tyler Hutts.

In girls’ singles Bri Alexander, Preslea Edmond and Olivia Walker took losses.

The Scott-Martinez and Strange-Hutts doubles team took losses for the Hornets.
