Lightning strike in Gatesville

Pictured above is an oak tree located in the backyard of Ted and Lori McConville of Gatesville.

In the early morning hours of May 24, McConville and his wife were awakened by a lightning strike that sounded like it was very near. They later discovered that an oak tree in their backyard had been struck by lightning leaving a scar the length of the tree from the top, down along the trunk and disappearing into the ground. McConville said that bark debris from the strike was found all throughout their yard.
