Central Texas Roots welcomed Cen-Tex Reptile and Wildlife Services to August meeting

Posted

Central Texas Roots Garden Club held their monthly meeting on Saturday, Aug. 12, at Junction 36. This month’s educational topic was led by Fallon Redding of Cen-Tex Reptile and Wildlife Services.

Fallon gave an interactive educational experience to the members by sharing basic reptile identification techniques, non-toxic ways to deter reptiles in gardens, the important role reptiles play in our eco system, and shared her team’s contact information for free of charge capture and relocation assistance.

The group thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with the many non-venomous reptiles present including a rat snake, a diamond back water snake, and other native reptiles. The presentation was followed by a fascinating Q and A session in which members were able to have their questions and concerns addressed.

The club meetings are free to attend, and the next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 9 at the Junction 36 at 11 a.m. There are generally seeds, plants, starters for free swap. Door prizes and light refreshments are provided. A full menu is available for those who choose to purchase a meal.

Next month’s guest speaker will be Reed Baize from Coryell City, Master Gardener- bachelor’s in animal science and Master of Science in plant pathology.

Future educational topics include composting, heirloom seeds, urban farming, propagation, water conservation, medicinal herb farming and plant identification.

Central Texas Roots meets on the second Saturday of each month.
