With 32 Coryell County youth competing in this year’s district quiz bowl contest, the locals led all other counties in both participation and results.
The 4-H Quiz Bowl contests enable youth to study facts about their respective divisions and then showcase their knowledge by answering questions. 4-H offers Family Community Health, Horse, and Livestock Quiz Bowl divisions.
Quiz Bowl teaches life skills such as self-discipline, observation, listening, and making and defending decisions.
The contest setting helps youths learn skills that include:
• Developing reasoning and critical-thinking abilities;
• Making sound decisions;
• Developing quick and accurate powers of observation;
• Expressing themselves concisely;
• Developing poise, self-discipline, and self-confidence;
• Increasing project knowledge and skills and participating as a member of a team, thus developing cooperation and teamwork among project members.
Senior Level teams, by placing in the top three in their respective contests, qualified for the Texas 4-H Roundup Quiz Bowl contests to be held in June, when they will represent both Coryell County and the 21 counties that make up District 8. Complete results are as follows:
