Doyle “Butch” Whaley, age 74, of Gatesville, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, at Scott’s Funeral Home with Pastors Sam Crosby and Tim Crosby officiating.  Interment followed at Mound Cemetery immediately after the service.

Butch was born on March 7, 1950 to the late Ervin Doyle and Martha Eudora Whaley in Brownfield.  He graduated from Gatesville High School in 1968 and enlisted into the United States Army before transferring to the Texas Army National Guard.  On August 18, 1972, he married Patricia Lam and the two made their home in Gatesville.  He worked as a mechanic for M.A.T.E.S., retiring in 1990.  After his retirement, he worked as a paraprofessional for the Gatesville Independent School District until 2015.

Butch was a devout Christian and servant and accepted his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 23.  He was also an active member of Trinity Baptist Church.  His love for his family and grandchildren was unconditional and was shown through many selfless acts of kindness.  He was a jack of all trades, was mechanically inclined, and was an unbelievable carpenter.  He also enjoyed being outdoors, spending quality time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, and shooting.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Gerloff; and brother-in-law, Terry Lam.

He is survived by his wife, Pat (Patti Pat), of 51 years; daughters, Melissa Pruitt and husband, Jeff, and Crystal Whaley; grandchildren, Tyler Pruitt and fiancé, Kristen Hutson, Brant Pruitt, and Avah Argabright; great-grandchild, Hunter Hutson; sisters, Dora Ward and husband, Jerald, and Cindy Long and husband, Nelton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, Butch’s family asks that memorials be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 1506 W. Main Street, Gatesville, Texas 76528.
