The Young and the Rest of Us

Posted

Breaking news from the young and the rest of us in Pearl: I, your trusty Pearl News Correspondent who never causes any trouble or gets in anybody’s business (well, that’s not true), just received a call from Linda Ray warning me that my life is in jeopardy and that I should take the necessary precautions to protect myself from our dearest friend and foe—yes, both apply as you will see. It all began when Linda Ray received a call from Kay Pruett who asked her if she would be available to take her somewhere. This after Kay finished reading the Pearl News in The Gatesville Messenger. Linda, always obliging and knowing that Kay never asks for anything, of course responded that she would be happy to take her anywhere she needs to go. Kay then told Linda that she needed a ride to East Texas as she has urgent business with said Pearl News Correspondent. It seems that Kay’s name was once again mentioned in the Pearl News column along with the teeny weeny, turquoise greeny, stringy bikini, and this time Kay said that she is going to put an end to this once and for all—permanently! (To be fair, I had been warned about reporting such tales. However, I just have to report the truth, don’t I?)

Linda, again always obliging, when possible, let Kay know that this might not be such a good idea, but she would see what she could do. As Linda pondered the situation, she realized that if she and Kay struck out on their own, there is no way that they could even find East Texas—neither have the necessary apps on their phones to make such a journey, and who in the world would have a paper map with print large enough for them to see? In fact, Linda thought, they would probably just get to the outskirts of Gatesville and have to turn around and head back home. There you have it, the whole sad story…to this point. Being only somewhat of a writer and not at all a prognosticator in the least, I have no idea what will happen next. Will Kay and Linda, in a Thelma and Louise manner, decide to undertake such a trip to do heaven knows what to this poor, innocent purveyor of the news? Or should this sweet, truthful…and don’t forget innocent…writer do as Linda Ray strongly suggested—call Judge McDonald (the previously mentioned precaution) and report Kay once again. If you happen to see him in town, you might want to let him know that she’s up to no good again. He’ll know who you mean. Folks, there’s no place like Pearl—no matter where you live.

This week’s Bible verse comes from Lamentations 3:22-24—The faithful love of the Lord never ends. His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in Him.” NIV
