Rickey is serving in his fifth year as the Athletic Director for Gatesville Independent School District. Prior to being selected as the athletic director, he was the head volleyball coach from 2001 to 2019. He admitted that the best part about his job is being able to be around Gatesville ISD’s fabulous students, while watching them put in hard work to succeed.
“I try to get to as many Hornets athletic events as possible, and sometimes that is three to five nights a week,” Phillips said. “I love watching our teams compete and represent our school district.”
He has lived in Gatesville all his life and has many relatives that live in the area. “I love how Gatesville and the people in surrounding areas are like family,” he said. “Whenever there is a tragedy or need, Gatesville folks always respond in a big way.”
Rickey reads The Gatesville Messenger and said, “Having worked at The Messenger many years ago, I still like its coverage of everything in our community and how the newspaper keeps its readers informed of pertinent news and events.”
