Mound community loses Debbie Dyer and Butch Whaley

Mrs. Deborah Jean Dyer died Friday, April 19. A memorial service was held Wednesday at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville with Pastor Bruce Cox officiating. Debbie is survived by her son, Travis, and daughter-in-law, Gloria Koontz. Mrs. Dyer was a member of White Mound Baptist Church. Debbie will truly be missed in our community. She was a cousin of the late Mrs. Lois Hopson.

Mr. Doyle “Butch” Whaley died Saturday, April 27. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. The burial was at Mound Cemetery. Mr. Whaley is survived by his wife, Pat (Lam) Whaley, of 51 years. Butch will be missed in our community.

Mrs. Braydie Barnard was honored with a bridal shower Sunday afternoon at the Mound Cowboy Church. She is the bride-to-be of Zane Beatty. Hostesses were Lisa Barnard, Dona Buster, Sue Jones, and Bailey Liles.

Gaylene Smith, Debbie Luedtke, Ellen Ann Gummelt, Jolene Sutton, Sterlin Shults, Case, Kristen, and Paxton Brack Jones, had lunch with Don and Sue Jones Thursday. Theresa Kinnear, of Leon Junction, traveled to Dallas April 26 to witness and celebrate the confirmation of her first grandson, Jackson Kinnear.

Saturday, Robert and Carolyn Blakley went to John Young’s retirement party in Waco.

Sunday, Robert and Carolyn Blakley went to College Station to see their daughter, Emma Blakley.

Bobby and Nelda Carothers celebrated their granddaughter, Caleigh Carothers’, engagement to Cooper Shackelford on Saturday, April 20, at her parent’s (Jason and Jamie’s) home in Horse-Bay. It was an exciting and special time. They are planning a May 31, 2025, wedding.

Zach and Amanda Long honored their daughter, Miss Aubree Ann Long, on her eighth birthday with a family dinner in Waco at a local restaurant on Saturday evening.

The Gatesville Primary School teachers took their Kindergarten class on a field trip to The Cameron Park Zoo in Waco on Thursday, and they all had the best time.

Several children of Mound attended their End of the Year Eighth Grade Dance at the Mary Bishop Gymnasium at Gatesville Junior High School on Saturday evening.

Several people from Mound attended the Gatesville Chamber of Commerce “Spring Swing Golf Classic” Saturday at the Country Club in Gatesville.

Anna and Allie McPherson, Aubree and Olivia Long, Noah and Benjamin Hopson, participated in the Hay Valley Baptist Church Annual Pinewood Derby in Gatesville on Sunday.

Those who have birthdays this week are Tommy Anthony, Amy Veazey, Lynda Brim, Tristan Hopson, and Cindy Long.
