Historic Coryell County Family Celebrate Family Reunion

Posted

One of the oldest families in Coryell County gathered for a family reunion at Faunt Le Roy Park on Saturday, Oct. 14.

Descendants of W.K. and Sara Amma Sadler gathered for their biannual family fish fry. Family members came from across Texas as well as from Louisiana, Colorado, Illinois, and Virginia.

Four generations of Sadlers were included in the group of eighty-five family members who arrived for the event.

W.K. and Sara Amma Sadler were born in the infancy of Coryell County during the 1850s at Rainey's Creek, just outside of Coryell City. They eventually settled on the Sadler Ranch near Cowhouse Creek before retiring to Gatesville.

The Sadlers married in 1879 and had 10 children. They lived to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 1929 and 60th anniversary in 1939. Per The Gatesville Messenger, for many years they enjoyed the distinction of being the oldest living children and oldest married couple in Coryell County.

The Sadler family tree stretches far and wide, and their descendants have carried on the tradition of coming together every few years to celebrate the family's history.

The remaining grandchildren of W.K. and Sara Amma Sadler were among those in attendance, which included Sara Larrimer, Cynthia Vaughan, Bob Sadler, Bill Sadler, Jane Jones, and Stanley Sadler.
