Tomorrow is an important day at Pearl Church of Christ

Posted

Tomorrow is an important day at Pearl Church of Christ. The weekly service begins at the regular time of 10:30 a.m., with Dr. Charles Patterson speaking. It’s not too late to let people know of Dr. Patterson’s speaking engagement in Pearl. He will be remembered by Hamilton, Bell, and Coryell folks as he was the former superintendent of Killeen ISD from 1988 until 2004. Dr. Patterson was born in Hamilton County, and his father was the superintendent there in the 1940s. To date, Dr. Patterson lives in Corsicana, Texas, and he and his lovely wife are very active in churches there. Following the morning service, the annual Labor Day Atchley Fish Fry and Silent Auction will begin. All proceeds from the auction benefit His Kids of Lampasas to go toward paying for His Hill Christian summer camp and their scholarships. Bidding on the auction items closes at 1 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend all the events of the day. The fish lunch with all the trimmings is free, but you may bring a favorite dish if you would like. Your generosity in the bidding is greatly appreciated. You will have the best time with the very friendly folk at Pearl Church of Christ, and you’ll want to go back again and again!

We have had several prayer requests this past week due to illness, and a nearby house fire in Izoro. Please lift up the Pearl folk during your daily prayers. The Lord will know who you are talking about. We truly believe that prayer moves mountains, and we sure need some mountains moved.

The next Pearl Bluegrass and Pearl Cottage Bookstore Day is Sept. 14. The Bluegrass jamming goes on all day, and the stage show begins at 1 p.m. This is a free event. The Bluegrass Kitchen has delicious homemade food available for purchase at very reasonable prices (cash only) from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. (The desserts are out of this world awesome!) The bookstore opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 3 p.m. Most everything in the bookstore is “buy what you want, pay what you want,” and all proceeds go toward local charities. There are over 6,000 books in excellent condition as well as various other items. Gather your family and friends and make a day of it in Pearl. You won’t regret a minute of it!

Can you believe I’m out of stories for this week? It kind of makes me sad that everyone has behaved so well and acted so…how shall I put it…normal. Really, people! That makes my job so difficult! Come on, dear ones, do something at least a little bit weird. When I have no itsy bitsy, teeny weeny, turquoise greeny, stringy bikini and Cat Whisperer stories, I have to make up my own fake news. I am just not feeling it at the time of this writing, sigh. Oh, hold the phone! I better wrap this up as I just saw that I have a message from Judge McDonald. I’ve got to go and bail Kay and Linda out…again. (This might be fake news, but the names have not been changed to protect the innocent. However, I might should change mine.) There’s no place like Pearl!

This week’s Bible verse comes from Psalm 119:165—Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing can make them stumble. NIV
