Residents invited to meet and greet for police chief candidates on Nov. 7

Local residents will have an opportunity to meet the three finalists who have applied to become the next police chief of the Gatesville Police Department.

The City of Gatesville will hold a community meet and greet with the candidates on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., at the Gatesville City Council Chambers on 110 North 8th Street. Residents can speak with the candidates, as well as provide input to City Manager Brad Hut.

Out of the 17 initial candidates and eight semi-finalists, Hunt and the selection committee reviewing the applicants have chosen the following finalists:

Jeffrey Clark

Clark is currently a deputy chief at the Temple Police Department, a position he has held since 2016. He has over 31 years of experience in law enforcement, with over 12 in a command-level position.

Clark has spent his entire career in Temple. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from American Military University, is a Certified Public Manager graduate from Texas State University, and has attended several law enforcement leadership courses, including the FBI National Academy (Session #255).

Douglas Rude

Rude is currently a lieutenant at the Plano Police Department, a position he has held since 2016. He has over 32 years of law enforcement experience, with over eight in a command-level position. He spent eight years in Temple before moving to Plano.

Rude has a bachelor’s degree from Midwestern State University, and has attended several law enforcement leadership courses, including the FBI National Academy (Session #288), 93rd ILEA School of Supervision, and Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (Class #91).

Brian Wyers

Wyers is currently a deputy chief at the Copperas Cove Police Department, a position he has held since 2017. He has over 29 years of law enforcement experience, with over 13 in a command-level position.

Wyers has spent his entire career in Copperas Cove. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tarleton State University and has attended several law enforcement leadership courses, including the Bill Blackwood LEMIT Command College.

Hunt plans to announce the chosen candidate the week of Nov. 10, at a city council meeting.
