The community of Pearl lost two very dearly loved people this past week.
Wanda Manning, a Pearl resident for more than 61 years, and Dick Decker, formerly of Pearl but still a huge part of the community, went home to be with their Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 6. Manning’s services were May 9, at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial was scheduled to follow at Pearl Cemetery. At the time of this writing, Decker’s services have not been set. However, we do know that the service will be held at Pearl Church of Christ. Please check and/or like the Pearl Church of Christ Facebook page to find out more about Decker’s service. Join the community in keeping the families in your prayers.
Upcoming dates of the Pearl Bluegrass event and the Pearl Cottage Bookstore days for the remainder of 2023 are: June 3, July 1, Aug. 5, (second Saturday in September) Sept. 9, Oct. 7, Nov. 4, and Dec. 2. Mark these dates on your calendar and come see us in Pearl.
The Pearl Cottage Bookstore has a lot of new items. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the above listed dates. Most items are “take what you want, pay what you want,” and all proceeds go to local charities. There are more than 6,000 books in the store as well as various other items. You never know what you might find at the bookstore. Go see Kay, Linda, and Corlisa. You’ll come as curious customers and leave as favored friends. This is Pearl Book Cottage’s 14th year.
May 7 was Scholarship Sunday at Pearl Church of Christ. The church was blessed to be able to give out 10 scholarships that day! You can view the pictures of the recipients on the Pearl Church of Christ Facebook page. The scholarships are funded via memorials, auctions, and designated donations, and the church thanks everyone who has helped make these scholarships possible.
Pearl Church of Christ Vacation Bible School is almost upon us — May 29 through June 2, 9 a.m. until noon. Please share this information with all of your friends and family. Everyone is welcome.
Don’t forget that Sunday, May14, is Mother’s Day.
This week’s Bible verse comes from II Corinthians 1:3,4 — Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. (NIV)
