Pearl Church of Christ is preparing for Valentine auction

Posted

The next quarterly meeting of the Pearl Community Center board is Jan. 27. All are invited to attend. It starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

We have several Pearl people who need prayer. Linda Ray continues to need prayer as she deals with a serious health condition. Randall Gartman will be having surgery later this month. There are also several others who are homebound or in a care center. Extra prayers are greatly appreciated.

The Pearl Church of Christ is preparing for the annual Valentine Auction, which takes place Feb. 9, immediately following the 10:30 a.m. worship service. If you would like to donate auction items, please drop them off at the church. Auction items will be out by Jan. 29, and bidding can begin then and continue until the day of the auction. Everyone is invited to participate as this auction funds scholarships for local students and for His Kids. The His Kids scholarships are in the honor and memory of Richard Williams, the founder of that wonderful group. The church is very thankful for your generous bids and donations!

The next Pearl Bluegrass event and Pearl Bookstore Day is Feb. 1. Jamming at the Community Center goes on all day, and the stage show begins at 1 p.m. If you have a band that would like to play on stage, just show up and sign up. Chris Ray and Garrett Dickey will be glad to answer any questions you may have. You can find them somewhere in the Community Center on that day. The Bluegrass Kitchen opens at 11 a.m., serving delicious homemade foods (cash only). There is no cost to join in the jamming or hear the stage show. Donations to help with the cost of running the Community Center are greatly appreciated. Visiting is always free—you never know who you might see. The bookstore opens at 10 a.m. (sometimes, a little before) and closes at 3 p.m. There are over 6,000 books and various and sundry other items that you really can’t live without—you must see it to believe it. Most purchases are by donation as this is a charity bookstore. All money received goes to support local charities. It’s also the friendliest store in Texas, maybe in the world. You can also sell items flea market-style by setting up a booth north of the cabin for a small fee of $5. The only thing you can’t sell is ready-to-eat food items. This is a great opportunity for crafters to sell their wares. So….be there….and don’t be squares!

Linda and Ronald discovered a feature on their new car that they did not know was there until the icy cold weather last week. Ronald reported that when he started the car and slowly drove out of their place, the car gave him an order. It told him to slow down due to icy conditions! Linda said that now Ronald not only has a wife to tell him what to do, he now has a car that does the same thing. If you see Ronald in the grocery store, you might give him a sympathetic hug. There’s no place like Pearl!

This week’s Bible verse comes from Psalm 90:1,2—Lord, You have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God. NIV
