Over 80 Pearlites turn out for Thanksgiving feast

Posted

The Pearl Baptist Church hosted a Thanksgiving get-together at the Pearl Community Center on Nov. 10. The main fare was Mexican food, and it was attended by over 80 Pearlites. Everyone reported that it was a very enjoyable day.

The Pearl Church of Christ enjoyed a wonderful service with many visitors on Sunday, Nov. 17th. Next Sunday, Nov. 24th, everyone is welcome to bring a Thanksgiving dish for a potluck to begin immediately following services. Everyone is always welcome at Pearl Church of Christ!

The Rays’ grandson, Riley, has had a great year in the Gatesville Hornet band. He has won awards and has been a busy traveler during his time in the band so far. Pearl is so proud of this talented young man!

Don’t forget about the “Buy What You Want, Pay What You Want by the Box” sale at the Pearl Cottage Bookstore on Dec. 7th in conjunction with the Pearl Bluegrass event! It’s gonna be big, ya’ll!! The book cottage opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 3 p.m., so be there to get these great bargains! All proceeds go toward the bookstore’s local charities.

My oldest granddaughter enjoyed great success in the Piney Woods Youth Rodeo last weekend. She came in third in the breakaway roping event in her age group. I love watching her do what she loves! However, I guess my kids think I’m really old, because there was no way they would let me walk up and down the stands by myself or even stand up without someone putting their hand on my arm to support me. I love them for caring so much about me, BUT I am not that old! It reminds me of another time a few years ago when the kids were staying with me for a few days during a sweet visit. My son and daughter-in-law decided to go to Gatesville to shop for a few needed items. They left my grand with me, and she could hardly wait to get them out of the house, so we could play without their interruptions. I noticed that her parents had given her a few “private” instructions before leaving. A couple of hours later, my grand and I decided to play “Pick Up Sticks” on the floor in the living room. All of a sudden, my granddaughter got this really sad look on her face. I asked her if she was missing her parents and assured her they would be back soon. This distraught little girl replied, “No, that’s not it. I just don’t know how I’m going to get you off the floor before they come home!” Well, that made this Grammie pop up really fast. Why in the world do our kids age us before our time? My consolation is…their time is coming!

This week’s Bible verse comes from Psalm 100:4,5—Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations. NIV
